When Football Become a New ‘Culture’ in Indonesia
Football is the most interesting sport in Indonesia, many people love this game even though they can’t play it, Indonesia people is very enthusiastic with football. In Indonesia, we had many football team with different supporters, and the atmosphere in every region is very different too. There is so many reason why football can become a new culture in Indonesia.
As one of Indonesia supporters I know why football can be a new culture, I know that football is more than just a game for us, for the players and for the supporters, and for everyone who always watching football from their TV, they’ll never understand why football is more than just game, because they think that football isn’t more than just a TV show. Last week, we lost our football legend, goalkeeper from Persela Lamongan, I called him Francesco Totti from Indonesia, One man, One club, born in Lamongan, plays for Lamongan for 18 years until he die in 2017 after Persela's match against Semen Padang. And he is Choirul Huda, he proved that football is more than just a TV show, he proved that this game is all about passion, dedication, loyalty and love, as Eric Cantona said “ You can change your wife, your politics, your religion, but never, never can you change your favorite football team”, and I think that is true, and Choirul Huda can proved it.
Indonesia football atmosphere is great, Because for the supporters, Club is their pride, they can sacrifice much money, time, and many more just for support their football club everywhere, as Vince Lombardi said “football is like life, it requires perseverance, self-denial, hardwork, sacrifice, dedication ,and respect for authority”. And for the enthusiasm, Indonesia is number 1 about football enthusiasm, more than other country in Asia, they are so maniac with this game, even though Indonesia football isn’t good enough, but for the supporters, Club is their reason why they're still love Indonesian football, but I know that a lot of them hate the Indonesia football federation. Because this federation is always think that football is all about business. And then on top of that, many football fans are from different class, it’s like from working class and student class, they think that football is their priority, they willing to sacrifice their time to work or time to study just for support their football club, I know it’s crazy but it is the truth. Just look around, how many friends or how many family that they are loved this beautiful game. Because football is for everyone, for you, for me, but not for the industry or mafia.
Indonesian football has the best football culture in ASEAN, why? It’s because our people really love this game, old, young, poor, or rich, football can unite us, their creativity are great, they can make the stadium like a hell for the enemy but like a heaven for their team. They’ll do anything just to support their team over the land and sea. It is just little madness from our football fans, they can make football become a new culture because of their enthusiasm, and their dedication with football and for their club is based on love and passion.
